In September, you'll be able to see seven luxury homes in the Home Builder's Assn Home Show Expo 2023. It's like HGTV in Iowa. New materials, colors, accessories, you will love to tour these homes and get ideas for yours, or if you want to build a new home, you can even talk to the the builders.

I moved to the Urbandale/Johnston area in 2001 as an 11-year-old. I attended Johnston Middle School and Johnston High School, graduating in 2008. From the teachers at the excellent schools, to the police that guard the streets, to the business owners that employ and entertain Urbandale/Johnston is home to some of the best people in the world. The people of the area are kind, hardworking and above all family oriented. The values that the people of this area show are ones that should be emulated all across this great nation of ours.

Walker Johnston Park is a fantastic place to spend time with family and friends! The pond is charming and you can easily spend a day here with all the different activities families can do. Between the endless trails, open picnic areas, large playgrounds, soccer/baseball/football fields, skateboard park, and more, there is much to offer a family that's looking for somewhere to burn some energy! It's also a great place to take some beautiful family photos. Hands down, one of the best parks in the metro.

Urbandale's "new" public library opened in 2000. In 2015, the large welcoming public library underwent a renovation that replaced all the carpet and opened up the entry area. They rearranged the children's and teen areas to make them more attractive and welcoming.

The library offers a wide range of outstanding programs and services for all ages. The children's programs for all ages, from babies to teens, draw hundreds of families every month. Meeting rooms are in use daily for everything from magicians to Social Security informational programs. An art gallery showcases local artists. A cozy reading room with fireplace and windows looking out on the tree-lined creek in the park behind the building, welcomes readers to relax.

Urbandale has the best "small town" community 4th of July celebration around! A carnival with lots of rides, 5K fun run, dance parties with local bands, Community Band concert, contests and food, and the two highlights-- a parade that lasts usually about two hours and one of the best fireworks displays around with lots of great viewing sites. If you set up your lawn chairs in the right spots you'll get a great view of the Urbandale fireworks, and on the horizon you can see the high shots from several other cities around the area as well.

It's all put on by a committee of local volunteers and paid for by part of the carnival proceeds, Fun run entry fees and button sales. Come join us for a great community event.
  • I love the walking trails, parks, restaurants, community events and the friendly people. The Urbandale community has done a great job keeping the older commercial areas fun and current. Merle Hay Mall area is in the process of getting a "facelift" at this time. You can get about everything you need in Urbandale, but it is also convenient to other attractions and shopping in the Greater Metro.
