North Liberty is an ever-growing community with plenty to offer. When I was growing up, I used to drive along on a gravel road passing by corn and bean fields. Nowadays that road has been paved and that cornfield has turned into the wonderful Liberty High School featuring two indoor gymnasiums, an auditorium, a media center, and an academic wing that can hold 1000 students. There is even an addition planned to hold another 500 students which will be completed in 2022.

As the area continues to develop, there are plenty of new construction homes to choose from and cater to your needs, or you can find a myriad of neighborhoods with great qualities to settle into. Even with its recent growth, if you are worried about financing you may be able to qualify for a rural development loan.

You will find that there is no shortage of restaurant choices. If you're in the mood for breakfast, I would recommend Bluebird Cafe. As for lunch and dinner, you can check out Red's Alehouse, the Tin Roost, or enjoy some barbecue at Mosley's. Even if you just need a quick bite, there is plenty to offer including Chester's Chicken and Pancheros.

If you enjoy being outdoors, there are plenty of trails for biking, walking, or running. You can find all of them on the city's website linked at the bottom. North Liberty also offers golfing at the Quail Creek Golf Course. If you're looking for some outdoor family fun, you can take them to Centennial or Quail Ridge Park or have a great time swimming at the North Liberty Aquatic Center.

The City of North Liberty undertook a $280,000 cost to have a special census last fall. The results are in, and North Liberty made an excellent decision in doing so. At the last census in 2010, North Liberty's population was 13,374. In 2015, the population is now 18,228...a 36% increase! The cost to do the census was money well spent because North Liberty will receive an additional $500,000 each year through the 2020 census for street repair and road improvement based on the population increase!

I found this video on YouTube of an intrepid bicyclist riding the North Liberty to Iowa City bike trail that runs along North Dubuque St. The bike trail was built in 2010/2011 and has had heavy use. For most people the ride to downtown Iowa City takes 20 minutes or so.

The trail used to end at the Iowa River bridge, but the DOT is in the process of extending the bike trail all the way across I-80 with a dedicated pedestrian/bike bridge and connecting it to existing sidewalks/bike trails that take you to downtown in safety and style!

Enjoy this first half of the ride!!

A couple of decades ago when I was much younger and had a better view of my toes, I lived in a small two bedroom apartment with my wife and kids in what was the tiny town of North Liberty. The grocery store was also a hardware store and a gas station. There were little or no city buildings or functions, and if you wanted to go out to eat, there were little or no choices.

My, how things have changed! The population of North Liberty has almost tripled. There is a fantastic Recreation Center with a great outdoor Aquatic Center, and there are a number of really great places to eat and seek out entertainment!

When I am speaking to folks just moving to the area, getting them to understand the symbiotic relationship between Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty takes a bit of doing, but they come to see that each has its own flavor, but is part of a vibrant and functioning community.

Many people don't realize that there is limited bus service to North Liberty via the Coralville bus system. There is a single pickup in the morning, and then a single drop-off in the evening for those working in Iowa City or Coralville. Hopefully, as ridership increases, they will add more times and stops! You can also arrange to park your car at the University of Iowa's Oakdale Campus and ride the bus in from there. Or when it is nice, you can ride your bike directly there and catch the bus.

North Liberty is growing quickly and is fast becoming a hub for commerce and jobs in its own right.
