Campustown is the hot spot for the college community in Ames. Wednesday through Saturday, catch the variety of local food trucks on the corners of Chamberlain Street and Welch Avenue on your way to or from the variety of bars, all placed within a two block radius. If you want a "local feel" and a variety of drink options, hit Welch Ave Station bar which is the oldest of the bar selections on Welch and a local favorite especially on game days. If you're looking for a sit-down food joint with a mellow atmosphere, be sure to check out Stomping Grounds Cafe and Cafe Beaudelaire. Both are within walking distance from the center of Campustown.

Aside from food and drink, Campustown is conveniently located across from Iowa State University. Walk down Lincoln Way and stop in Barefoot Campus Outfitter or the Campustown Spirit Store to grab some Cyclone gear! Cross over Lincoln way and you're standing on one of the top 25 most beautiful campuses in the country, according to the Des Moines Register and other sources.

What I love about Campustown is convenience and location. When you are living in Campustown, you are within a 10 minute walk or drive from everything Ames and Iowa State University have to offer! Food, nightlife, ISU athletics, the university, the list goes on and on! Whether you are in a house, an apartment or even living in the greek community, you are surrounded by activities.

Campustown is also filled with single-family homes! While Campustown is generally known as a student-living area, surrounding neighborhoods and streets are filled with families. It is truly a unique and diverse area of people and that is part of the reason why this is such a great place in the city of Ames.

Built out of concrete and steel from bottom to top, Hilton Coliseum is one of the loudest arena's in the nation. There are only a few places in the country where the fans can get this close to the players on the floor. The fan base here in Ames is one of the nation's largest (and loudest) according to many reputable sports announcers, such as Jay Bilas and Dick Vitale. Players from opposing teams and even our very own Cyclones say they can physically feel the floor shake and it's no surprise...the decibel meter in Hilton has been recorded up to 109 decibels (almost as loud as standing next to a jet engine)! The passionate fans, the atmosphere, and the experience of singing "Sweet Caroline" with the fans after a Cyclones win - it's truly an experience you must try when visiting Ames.
